When I saw these 100 Questions floating around the blogosphere, I knew I had to grab them! In lieu of the usual Seven Questions this week, here's 100 Questions (in two installments). Thank you for reading! I hope to see everyone's answers to these really thoughtful questions!
- Are you young at heart, or an old soul? Not sure. I'm young at heart because I don't like taking things too seriously - I love singing and dancing and candy and toys, but that's mostly because I know The Truth. That the scariest thing in life is that it ends. And you need to enjoy it. So maybe I'm the oldest of souls, so old that I can stay young at heart?
- What makes someone a best friend? When it's easy. When you don't have to try. When you don't worry about it. You don't reach the conclusion that someone is a best friend, you just know.
- What Christmas (or Hanukkah) present do you remember the most? I'm very grateful for all presents, but my memory sucks, so I always say thank you in the moment.
- Tell me about a movie/song/TV show/play/book that has changed your life. Hedwig and the Angry Inch! I saw it in college, and I felt like a part of me finally made sense. I have a tribute tattoo on my arm. I know almost all the words in the script. I felt as though it was my story being told - minus the whole East German transsexual rock star thing. Don't we all yearn for love like it will complete us? I spent years thinking I could never be whole without another half. After I saw the movie, I almost instantly realized - and it's a cliche - that the greatest love of all is learning to love yourself.
- Name one physical feature that you like about yourself, and one you dislike. I love my nose, I think big noses are the new big boobs. I used to hate my over-sized nose, but now I think my profile is my best angle. I just wish the skin on my face would stay clear!
- Would you like to reconnect with any friends you’ve lost contact with? I tired once, and when I was shunned, it broke my heart. I mourn every time someone removes me as a Facebook friend. It's hard to accept that someone might randomly decide they don't want to be in my life ever again. I wonder what I might have done, what they could be angry about. I love reconnecting, and connecting. It hurts to think others don't feel the same.
- What’s more important in a relationship: physical attraction or emotional connection? I think lust comes first, then love. You can learn to like someone you lust after, but you can't force yourself to be attracted to someone if you aren't.
- Name a movie that you knew would be terrible just from reading the title. Battleship. The idea that a group of people could waste $90 million on something that they all know is going to be terrible instead of donating it to charity or funding a decent project blows my mind and makes me kind of sick.
- What holiday do you most look forward to? Halloween, Thanksgiving, and my Grandma's birthday.
- How is the relationship between you and your parents? They trust me as an adult, but are always there when I need them. The perfect balance. Although I'm sure they'd like me to call more often.
- You’ve got the TV on, but you’re not really watching. What channel is the TV on? I'm watching trashy TV on Netflix. I'm on a romantic comedy kick, I hate to admit.
- Name a song that never fails to make you happy. Samba Pa Ti by Carlos Santana. It starts off slow and sad but it turns around at the end to be so happy! It takes you in, whatever your mood, and leads you gently back to feeling like life is wonderful.
- You know at least one person named Michael. Tell me about him. I worked for a man named Michael for several years, he's in his early 50's, and is a magician.
- Have you ever read the “missed connections” on Craigslist? Have you ever posted one, or wanted to? No, never read them.
- If you could pick anywhere to live the rest of your life, where would it be? Right here in New York City. This place is everything, why would you ever want to go anywhere else?
- Can money buy happiness? Absolutely not! I've seen it firsthand.
- Do you drink? Smoke? Do drugs? Why, or why not? Why? Why not? ;-)
- Is there anyone close to you that you know you can’t trust? You don’t have to give names. No, I have a great sense for bad people, and I never let them into my life. I'm like a dog, I can sniff out malicious intent.
- Where was your favorite place to go when you were a little kid? I like WAL*MART. Is that ridiculous? A little, maybe? I liked the feeling of getting lost. And the variety. That probably explains a lot about my life choices!
- Have you ever spent a night in the hospital? Not since I was born.
- Do you enjoy being with only one or two friends, or with a large group of people? Sometimes I feel like I get lost in large groups. I'm good one-on-one, but after a while, and people calm down, I get an opportunity to shine!
- Do you like the type of music your parents listen to? Do your parents like the type of music you listen to? My dad introduced me to rock music. I introduced my mom to musicals. With some exceptions, we all have pretty good taste in music - whose records do you think I stole while growing up?
- Have you ever been bullied? Have you ever bullied anyone else? Oh sure I was bullied! Not terribly, there were some events that stand out, but I kept pretty quiet in high school which probably spared me from the severe torture many of my friends endured. I deeply regret my cowardice. I would do it all over again if I had the chance, trust.
- If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be? Mozzarella cheese. Cheese sticks, Burrata mozzarella, shredded pizza cheese, it doesn't matter.
- If your partner wanted to wait until marriage before having sex, would you stay in that relationship? No.
- Do you believe in a god? No.
- Of all the social networks in the world, why use twitter? Apparently, Twitter is the social network of choice among those most self-obsessed. So, naturally.
- What’s your favorite hashtag to track? I make my own hashtags!
- Would you call yourself/your family “middle class?” I was definitely raised "middle class." Nice suburb, good school.
- Name a TV series you didn’t enjoy until after it ended. Firefly. Totally worth it. Check it out.
- Have you ever bought a product from an infomercial? I used Proactiv for a while...nothing works! Of course.
- If you could give up your car and never have to drive again, would you? I just did. Over a year ago. I don't miss it even a little bit. If you're late, and you drive yourself, you have no excuse. If you take public transportation, you have a universally understood excuse.
- If you go back to one point in time to give advice to yourself, when would you go and what would you say? I'd tell teenage Meghan that it all (well, almost all) goes away, but I suspect she always secretly knew that.
- What’s your “quirkiest” habit? I tap incessantly. Anytime I pick up a rhythm, I will tap it out. I also interrupt people to correct them while they're on the phone, which is awful.
- What is “normal?” Are you normal? I always thought I wasn't. Now I'm afraid I might be. I hope never to be. Normal is giving up on everything that is you and absorbing the status quo without thinking for yourself. Please let me never be normal.
- Someone close to you is dying. You have the choice to let this person live for 10 more years, but if you do, you cause the death of 10 strangers. You don’t have to see them die. Do you take the offer? Yes.
- What is one thing you could never forgive? I'm really understanding. I could probably forgive anything. Try me.
- Would you rather be in a relationship after the honeymoon period ends, or be single? Single. When romance dies, can you really call it a relationship anymore?
- Is it possible for guys and girls to be just friends? My closest friends are guys. For some reason, I feel like they're less judgmental. I think girls always look for ways to compare themselves to others, like it's some kind of competition, and if you allow yourself to be vulnerable with another girl, she'll hold it against you. Guys, on the other hand, already accept their humanity and don't look down on you for being honest. It's just easier.
- Where do you and your friends go to hang out? Always somewhere different! But Dave & Buster's is a favourite haunt.
- Write the first sentence of your obituary. "Do not take life too seriously - you will never get out of it alive!"
- What is the best TV theme song ever? The Golden Girls theme song!
- When you were young, what would you dream you would be when you grew up? A star. I'm working on it.
- When you’re alone in your own home, do you walk around naked? Yeah, but mainly because it's a billion degrees in here all year 'round!
- What gets you out of bed in the morning? Fear of being late for work. And the promise of hot coffee to warm my heart.
- Do you want to have more friends than you have right now? Sure. I can always use more friends.
- What part of the past year sticks out in your mind? The past year was a blur. Starring in The Master Builder may be one of the highlights of my entire life.
- You win a scratch-off lottery game that gives you $2000 a week (after taxes) for the rest of your life. Do you keep your job? Not even for a second. I would only do jobs I enjoyed.
- Could you be in a long-distance relationship? If you’re in one, what makes yours work? I was, for six months, with Eli. Having good friends around was my salvation. And we were kind of long-distance for the first year we "dated", but I kept quite busy with friends then too, and acting. An important part of any relationship is being your own person. If you can stand on your own, you make a far better relationship partner than someone codependent. I think periods of long-distance make relationships stronger.Wooh! That was intense!More to come tomorrow...
